ISAs have been the most widely used savings vehicle for savings in the UK since their introduction in April 1999 and are commonly regarded as the most successful Government savings initiative due to their tax-favoured incentives of being free from UK income and capital gains tax. There have been numerous changes to ISA regulations over the years to provide additional flexibility for consumers and further incentivise savings for a first home and for retirement planning.
