TISA supports policy to increase savings

August 14, 2007

Conservative support for lifetime savings account welcomed.

TISA welcomes the announcement by the Conservative Party that they will take action to encourage greater savings. TISA has worked closely with all political parties to develop a holistic savings policy. This would have the net effect of widening and deepening individuals’ savings and leaving them better prepared for the future.

TISA supports the concept of a ‘lifetime savings account’ and has consistently advocated the creation of a scheme which bridges short and medium term savings with longer-term pension provision.

While detailed proposals from the Conservatives are not due out until later this week, TISA looks forward to robust debate about savings policy in the UK.

TISA Director General Tony Vine-Lott said,

‘We welcome the concept of a lifetime savings scheme. While more detail is needed to fully understand this proposal, we have always felt that a lifetime savings account would be advantageous to individuals because it more closely matches the lives they lead. While we have made great strides on simplifying the ISA and making it more customer-friendly, savers could still benefit from the structure and simplicity of a lifetime savings account for longer-term savings.’
