Summit Hotel Properties, REIT -US8660826053

January 10, 2024

In terms of non-UK REITs (like in this example US REIT), the usual ISA test would have to be applied to the shares to check whether they are ISA qualifying which means that the shares would need to be listed on a recognised stock exchange or admitted to trading on a recognised stock exchange in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the UK.

A REIT is simply a ‘company’ so it is the usual ‘qualifying shares’ test that has to be applied.

The tricky bit here is whether this REIT is ‘listed’ or simply ‘traded’ on the NYSE. The company website FAQ (4th link below) says “traded” not listed but I’ve seen other companies use different terminology when the shares were actually listed.

We are starting to see more situations where shares (US) are simply ‘traded’ on the NYSE without being ‘listed’ so its difficult to give a definitive answer based on the information on the company website and NYSE (links below).
