New Economic Secretary to speak at TISA Annual Conference

October 20, 2008

Ian Pearson MP the new Economic Secretary to the Treasury and Philip Hammond MP, Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury are to deliver the headline speeches at this year’s TISA Annual Conference in London on Wednesday 19 November.

The implications of the credit crunch for the provision of financial services from provider and consumer perspectives will be the main focus of the conference which will be chaired by Justin Urquhart Stewart of Seven Investment Management. Other speakers include:

• Dennis Turner, Chief Economist HSBC Bank plc
• Hal Austin, Editor Financial Adviser
• Clive Van Tonder, Head of Business Development BNP Paribas
• Monique Melis, Kinetic Partners.

TISA Director General Tony Vine-Lott says:
“The UK savings and investments sector is facing unprecedented challenges and our conference is timely as we look to the future, informed on the key issues by the thoughts of our speakers and in informal discussions amongst delegates.

I fervently believe in the benefits of a joined-up approach to saving – not just in terms of Government policy but from the point of view of the consumer too – that is why TISA is campaigning for the creation of a national ‘Saving for Life’ strategy. This conference will play a crucial part in raising the issues that need to be addressed to make this a reality.”

TISA’s Annual Conference will be held on Wednesday 19 November at Plaisterers’ Hall, One London Wall, London EC2Y 5JU. Registration will open at 12.30; conference presentations commence at 13.15 and conclude at 18.00 to be followed by a drinks reception.

The conference sponsors are BNP Paribas and Morse.

Notes for editors:The Tax Incentivised Savings Association (TISA)

TISA is the premier trade association in the UK retail savings and investment industry. By engaging with member firms, government, political parties, regulators and consumer groups TISA’s ultimate goal is always to further consumers’ best interests. It seeks to improve the range, features and quality of savings and investment schemes available whilst at the same time encouraging more people to save for their long term financial security and piece of mind.

Uniquely, TISA is able to articulate the opinions of the whole savings and investments marketplace through its membership which comprises over 120 member firms involved in the supply or distribution of products to the sector and its consumer interest. TISA’s remit extends across the broad spectrum of government sponsored savings and investment vehicles including:

• Individual Savings Accounts (ISAs)
• Child Trust Funds (CTFs)
• Saving Gateway
• Personal Pensions and Personal Accounts
• Investment Bonds
• Employer based pension schemes
• Wraps and platforms
• Other consumer-centric savings schemes and initiatives.

HM Government uses TISA’s market knowledge and ability to represent the views of both the savings and investments industry and consumers to help it to deliver its policy in this area. Recent TISA successes include improvements to the ISA, the regime in which ISAs operate and simplification of the CTF.
