Tina Archer
Head of Consumer Outcomes, Freetrade
Tina Archer joined Freetrade in 2022 as Head of Consumer Outcomes. Tina is responsible for implementing the Consumer Duty at the challenger broker, and advises on questions about consumer outcomes. She also oversees the review and approval of financial promotions. Prior to joining Freetrade, she worked at the FCA for over a decade, leading on the regulator's work on financial promotions and unfair contracts, and acting as a front line supervisor. Tina began her career as a lawyer in capital markets and then in professional support/training roles at Linklaters and Mishcon de Reya.
Matt Clay
Director, Consumer Duty SME, Baringa
Matt is a Director in Baringa’s Finance, Risk and Compliance practice. He has more than 18 years’ experience advising financial services institutions, helping them respond to major regulatory change and major associated risks. Matt has extensive knowledge of the global regulatory agenda and local jurisdictional expectations and has helped financial services institutions of all shapes and sizes to define and implement operational change to optimise compliance and meet regulatory obligations. Matt is currently working with multiple firms to support their Consumer Duty implementation efforts.
Mike Ellicock
Co-Founder & Chief Executive, Plain Numbers
Mike is a social entrepreneur. Following a military career, an MBA and a brief stint in banking, he joined Numicon as Chief Executive in 2008. Rapid growth led to sale to Oxford University Press. He launched National Numeracy as founding Chief Executive in 2012, building the organisation from little more than an idea to become a well-respected national charity with strong evidence of impact. Having handed over as Chief Executive there in 2020, Mike is now utilising his unparalleled knowledge of this largely hidden consumer vulnerability to enable firms to communicate numbers and data in a way that more customers understand. This Plain Numbers Approach helps to create the conditions for informed choice and good outcomes for customers.
Matthew Gregory
Partner, Norton Rose Fulbright
Matthew is a financial services regulatory lawyer based in London and advises domestic and overseas banks, investment firms and wealth managers on UK financial services law and regulation. Matthew was seconded to HM Treasury between 2018-2019, as a Senior Policy Advisor in the Financial Services, EU Strategy team working on the Future Economic Partnership between the UK and the EU, for financial services. Matthew has a particular interest in policy development, strengthened during his time working in Government. He has also spent time working closely with a major investment bank on a global regulatory capital project, and has a wide range of experience in advising on retail conduct issues and associated legal and regulatory provisions in the retail environment. He also has a particular interest in FinTech, and advises payment institutions and crowdfunding firms amongst others. Matthew works closely with colleagues in our contentious teams and has particular experience of advising UK banks on lessons learned and other internal reviews or investigations. Matthew trained in our London office, and has experience of working in both Dubai and Melbourne. Matthew read History at Downing College, Cambridge before completing postgraduate studies in law.
Jonathan Herbst
Partner, Global Head of Financial Services, Norton Rose Fulbright
Jonathan Herbst is the Global Head of Financial Services Regulation and joined the London practice as a partner in October 2002. He was previously Head of European Law at the UK Financial Services Authority from 2001 to 2002. Jonathan is a leading practitioner in the field of UK and EU financial services law and regulation. He specialises in regulatory advice relating to bank structuring, markets, commodity derivatives, custody and clearing and the regulatory aspects of acquisitions and disposals. Much of his work now involves strategic advice to senior management and legal teams on the implications of regulatory reform and relationships. In particular he has advised a number of banks on their documentation and systems and controls projects to implement the senior managers' regime. Jonathan is ranked Band 1 in Chambers, where he is "noted for his strength in the regulatory compliance space", as well as being recognised in Legal 500's Hall of Fame where he is "praised for forward thinking and ability to listen". In 2014 he won the Legal Week Client Partner of the Year (Global firm category) award. General Counsel who took part in the Legal Week survey described Jonathan variously as "brilliant", "flexible and interactive", having "excellent kudos" and being "incredibly bright and knowledgeable". Jonathan is a leading commentator on Brexit and co-authored a report for the Financial Services Forum on regulatory equivalence which was extensively referenced in a number of publications including Financial News, Reuters, FT Financial Adviser and City AM. As testament to his expertise on the topic, Jonathan gave evidence to the House of Lords EU financial affairs sub-committee inquiry on the impact of Brexit on financial services. Jonathan is a member of the Law Society Financial Services sub-committee and the FCA Lawyers Consultative Group. Jonathan is the editor of 'A Practitioner's Guide to MiFID II', published in 2018. Additionally, he is the co-author of the e-commerce volume of the Butterworths Financial Regulation Service, has written articles on market abuse and other regulatory issues for the Journal of International Financial Markets and is a frequent speaker at financial services conferences. Jonathan's recent experience includes: - Advising on the HSBC re-domicile project in 2015 and the ring fencing project for HSBC UK over the past three years - Advising on a number of bank, broker and asset manager projects including two globally systemic banks - Advising on various private equity regulatory issues for major private equity houses - Long standing adviser together with other partners in the team to CME.

Verona as Managing Director, Intermediary at 7IM, leads sales, relationship management and service for the range of products and services that 7IM provides to the UK financial planning market. Verona is Chair of the Culture and Sustainability Committee at 7IM and is active in supporting Diversity and Inclusion across the financial services industry.
Verona has been awarded a range of industry recognition including Investment Woman of the Year 2021 and Platform Woman of the Year 2020 and 2018.
David Mapplebeck
EMEA Chief Administrative Officer, Northern Trust
David Mapplebeck is responsible for overseeing EMEA regional governance, strategy and reporting at Northern Trust and oversees the day-to-day operation of the UK SMCR and other accountability regimes as well as UK Outsourcing requirements.
David represents Northern Trust on several industry groups, including the UK Finance Capital Markets and Wholesale Banking Board, and is Co-Chair of the TISA Governance, Conduct and Culture Committee.
David joined Northern Trust in January 2017 from State Street Bank & Trust Company. With 30 years’ experience in the legal and financial services industries, David has held senior management roles covering brokerage, asset management, family offices and custody banking businesses both in the UK and the Middle East and also worked for the UK Financial Conduct Authority, where he supervised multiple custody banks and asset management companies.
David holds a BA Hons in Law degree from Durham University and qualified as a solicitor in 1994.
Lisa Laybourn
Head of Technical Policy, TISA
Lisa has over 25 years experience in financial services with a breadth of regulatory knowledge and particular expertise in CASS. She spent 5 years at Architas Multi Manager as CF10a, and deputised for the COO in leading a function which included Third Party Governance, Operations and IT, as well as CASS. Prior to this Lisa spent 10 years with IFDS in various senior roles including as a Lead Relationship Manager and Head of European Cash and Stock Reconciliations. Lisa also spent some time with a Big 4 firm as a CASS SME. Prior to this Lisa worked in various operational roles in the banking sector.
