TISA reveals annual conference speaker line-up

October 26, 2009

This year’s TISA – Tax Incentivised Savings Association – national conference on 18 November will feature a political and regulatory emphasis as the Association highlights savings and investment issues in the run up to the next general election.

Representing the government will be Sarah McCarthy-Fry MP the Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury; Theresa May MP the Shadow Secretary of State for Work & Pensions will outline Conservative plans. Regulatory issues will be discussed by Sheila Nicoll the FSA director of conduct policy.

At the conclusion of the conference The Open University will launch its new Foundation Degree in Financial Services. Endorsed by the National Skills Academy for Financial Services, speakers at the launch include Paul Myners, Financial Services Secretary to the Treasury and the award director, Ian Fribbance of The Open University.

Tony Vine-Lott, TISA director general says:

“Britain will go to the polls within the next seven months and personal finance – particularly funding for retirement – is going to be one of the top items on the election agenda. It’s important that the industry can hear the views and debate the issues with the two main political parties. We’ll also look at future scenarios from the regulatory, economic, provider and distributor perspectives.

“Improving levels of professionalism is essential for the future success of our sector and I am delighted that delegates will have the opportunity to hear about the new skills-based and work-related degree from The Open University. This conference is always a popular and much talked about event and given the excellent speakers I am confident this year will once again be a first class affair.”

The Tax Incentivised Savings Association (TISA)

TISA is the premier trade association in the UK retail savings and investment industry. By engaging with member firms, government, political parties, regulators and consumer groups TISA’s ultimate goal is always to further consumers’ best interests. It seeks to improve the range, features and quality of savings and investment schemes available whilst at the same time encouraging more people to save for their financial security and peace of mind.

Uniquely, TISA is able to articulate the opinions of the whole savings and investments marketplace through its membership comprising over 120 member firms involved in the supply or distribution of products to the sector and its consumer interest. TISA’s remit extends across the broad spectrum of government sponsored savings and investment vehicles including:
• Individual Savings Accounts (ISAs)
• Child Trust Funds (CTFs)
• Savings Gateway
• Personal Pensions
• Investment Bonds
• Employer based pension schemes
• Wraps and platforms
• Other consumer-centric savings schemes and initiatives.

HM Government uses TISA’s market knowledge and ability to represent the views of both the savings and investments industry and consumers to help it to formulate its policy in this area. Recent TISA successes include improvements to the ISA, the regime in which ISAs operate and simplification of the CTF.
