TISA to confront the retirement savings challenge

September 11, 2009

TISA – Tax Incentivised Savings Association – is to hold a Retirement Savings Challenge on 7 October which will bring together policy makers and leading thinkers in the retirement arena in an afternoon seminar.

First held last year to considerable acclaim, the seminar provides an unrivalled opportunity for those involved in pensions strategy, decision making, product design, marketing, distribution, compliance, service and operations to hear about and debate the pensions landscape now and into the future.

Speakers include:

• Angela Eagle MP, Minister of State for Pensions and the Ageing Society
• Tim Jones, Chief Executive, PADA
• Alan Pickering CBE, Chairman, BESTrustees plc
• Ian Owen, Chairman, Partnership Assurance
• Adrian Boulding, Wealth Policy Director, Legal & General
• Lucian Camp, Chairman, Tangible Financial
• Jonathan Bloomer, Executive Chairman, Lucida plc

The seminar will be chaired by Malcolm Small, TISA Director of Portfolio and Retirement Planning who says:

“Funding retirement is one of the biggest challenges facing the UK today. I am particularly pleased that we will hear from the Minister on how the Government is facing up to the challenge. Key to the proposed solution is Personal Accounts. Viewed by many as either the panacea or an anathema, debate is still needed to resolve the detail and how best to communicate the benefits of Personal Accounts. Similarly we need to consider the future for the buy out/buy in market. With the panel of speakers that we have I am looking forward to a lively debate.”

The Seminar is being held on 7 October in Central London, commencing at 12.00 and concluding by 17.00. Delegate fees are £160 for TISA members (£250 non-members). Further details are available on the TISA website www.tisa.uk.com or from Dee Wastnedge, email: dee.wastnedge@tisa.uk.com, telephone 01642 666999.

Notes for Editors

The Tax Incentivised Savings Association (TISA)

TISA is the premier trade association in the UK retail savings and investment industry. By engaging with member firms, government, political parties, regulators and consumer groups TISA’s ultimate goal is always to further consumers’ best interests. It seeks to improve the range, features and quality of savings and investment schemes available whilst at the same time encouraging more people to save for their financial security and peace of mind.

Uniquely, TISA is able to articulate the opinions of the whole savings and investments marketplace through its membership comprising over 120 member firms involved in the supply or distribution of products to the sector and its consumer interest. TISA’s remit extends across the broad spectrum of government sponsored savings and investment vehicles including:
• Individual Savings Accounts (ISAs)
• Child Trust Funds (CTFs)
• Savings Gateway
• Personal Pensions
• Investment Bonds
• Employer based pension schemes
• Wraps and platforms
• Other consumer-centric savings schemes and initiatives.

HM Government uses TISA’s market knowledge and ability to represent the views of both the savings and investments industry and consumers to help it to formulate its policy in this area. Recent TISA successes include improvements to the ISA, the regime in which ISAs operate and simplification of the CTF.
